"Who's that sad looking lioness over there?" Kula questioned one evening.
Being new to the Pride Lands, she had allowed her new friends to show her around to get to know the place and its pride. Now, as they returned home, the group came across a single lioness.
"That's Sarabi," Nala explained to the smallest cub. "She's our Queen."
"But why is she so sad? And how come I've never seen her around before?" Kula asked.
"If you used your ears and LISTENED, you'd know she recently lost her King...and her son..." Chumvi told her. Kula was too saddened by this news to care about Chumvi's attitude towards her.
"Oh...yeah...I remember now..."
"She wanders off alone quite a lot these days," Malka added, "she always sits on Pride Rock or in the grass...always so sad..."
"Simba was the future King...and one of our best friends," Tojo spoke up.
Kula's ears drooped sadly as she watched the Queen from a distance. Her little heart ached for her...
Without saying another word, Kula trotted over to Sarabi and stopped in front of her. Sarabi was surprised when the new lioness cub settled herself down at her paws as a means of comfort.
One by one, the other cubs followed and did as Kula did. Chumvi stood staring at the scene for a moment or two, feeling quite irritated by Kula just being there...he didn't get on well with her and he disliked the attention going to her and everyone doing as she did, just because she was 'the new girl'.
But, he eventually stood up and wandered over to his friends to lie down at Sarabi's side. Perhaps there were more important things to life than being the center of attention...perhaps pulling together as a family was what was really important now.
Sarabi smiled. Times would get harder, but she knew she wasn't alone.
